  • Level

By the end of the Basic level, students will be able to handle simple interactions in everyday contexts with greater independence. They can ask and answer basic questions, express personal information, and engage in routine social exchanges with increased accuracy and fluency. Instruction at this level expands listening and speaking practice, incorporating slightly faster speech and a broader range of high-frequency vocabulary and functional phrases. Students refine their use of communicative strategies, including clarification techniques and recognizing tone and intent in spoken English. Greater emphasis is placed on developing confidence in real-life communicative scenarios.

Grammar

At the Basic level, students solidify their understanding of essential grammatical structures while being introduced to more variety in sentence construction. They gain control over the present simple and continuous tenses and are introduced to the past simple and the use of modal verbs such as can and should. Learners also work with possessive adjectives, countable and uncountable nouns, comparatives and superlatives, and basic conjunctions to link ideas. This grammatical foundation allows them to describe people, places, and events, give basic instructions, and express opinions and preferences with more precision.

Writing

Students begin to write short, connected texts with growing autonomy. Instruction moves beyond sentence-level writing to paragraph development. Learners write about familiar topics such as personal experiences, daily routines, descriptions of people and places, and short narratives. Key writing skills include organizing ideas logically, using linking words, and editing for clarity, punctuation, and verb agreement. Although writing remains guided, students are encouraged to express ideas in more depth and begin developing their individual voice in writing.
